Eat at Gwennie’s

Anchorage is full of historic restaurants, and diners have been flocking to Gwennie’s since it opened over 30 years ago. Specializing in locally sourced fare and home cooking, Gwennie’s is located at 4333 Spenard Road and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Here, you’ll find locals and visitors alike enjoying fresh dishes in a homey environment.

For breakfast, get a little wild and add some reindeer sausage to your omelet. Fresh crab and shrimp are also on the menu, since enjoying the seafood is a must when in Anchorage. An entire loaf of sourdough bread is featured on the “sides” menu and with its chewiness and sour bite, it’s the perfect choice to share—or keep for yourself.

Gwennie’s Specials

The Crab Imperial on an English muffin is a favorite for lunch, or go with the Reindeer Philly for an Alaskan twist on an American favorite. Liver and onions are on the chef’s menu, and the halibut chunk cocktail is a fantastic alternative to the classic shrimp (although Gwennie’s has that, too!).

Try the Fisherman’s Platter with scallops, king crab, oysters, shrimp and halibut, but save room for dessert. Alaska supreme ice cream or an apple dumpling is always delectable, and ask about their seasonal pies. This is Alaskan fare done right.
