Blueberry Festival

Hosted by the nearby Alyeska Resort, the annual blueberry festival takes place throughout August and it’s the right place to find the biggest, most delicious, and juiciest blueberries of the season. Up to 4,000 people flock to the small town of Girdwood every year for August’s weekends activities that pay tribute to one of Alaska’s favorite berries. Each year the party gets bigger, better, and tastier. The family-friendly event is the perfect place to try out blueberry-rich recipes and to harvest your own to take home.

There are blueberry-centric events throughout the area including the famous pie-eating contest. With contests for both adults and kids, the whole family can go head to head for bragging rights and big ribbons. Local and guest chefs will also demo a variety of blueberry dishes and compete for the dessert contests.

Feeling Blue?

Live music, a beer garden (offering blueberry beer, of course), and picnic spots are part of what make this event so magical. The region is full of blueberries, and it’s harvest season. Just in time to get ready for the chilly baking months, you can get your fill of what’s arguably the best berry in the state. You’ll find them all over, especially in the back area of the resort.

Hop on Chair 7 for a free ride up the hill, and you’ll be deposited at the best blueberry picking spot. Come taste for yourself what the Alaska wild is all about. You just might unearth a new favorite recipe along the way.
