Anchorage RunFest

Summer is running season in Alaska, and RunFest is a collection of top-rated events with options for every age and ability. From elite runners that travel to Anchorage from around the world to new runners looking for one of the most gorgeous 5ks in the country, there’s something for everyone. It’s also a great time for a late-season Boston qualifier with mild temperature, a variety of fast courses, and perfect running weather.

The pinnacle event, RunFest, is an out and back course that whisks you through the streets of Anchorage before being led along a coastline to the greenbelt of the region. Known as a “wild” event, you’ll likely spot a variety of urban wildlife along the course. What began as a simple two-day local event has grown into one of the biggest destination events in the region.

Spanning August 18 and 19, the two-day festival starts with a fitness expo and official bib pickup at Dena’ina Convention Center. It’s where you can carb-load on pasta on Saturday before gearing up for your Sunday event. A kids 2k, half marathon, 5k, marathon run/walk, and the 49k ultra marathon all take place throughout the weekend.

The runs are the biggest fundraiser for the local Anchorage Running Club, which offers scholarships to young runners and track teams. Bolstered by an all-volunteer group, you don’t want to miss out on this annual event that’s known for a great route, friendly vibe, and some of the best runner parties in the state.
