An Anchorage Fourth

Anchorage and nearby towns go all-out celebrating the Fourth of July with a patriotic spirit. The party gets started early in nearby Eagle River with a fete hosted by the Eagle River Lions Club on July 3rd. A full day of food, games, and live entertainment at Eagle River Lions Park ensures you get the most party out of 19 hours of sunlight. The unique lighting situation this time of year in Anchorage makes for unusual fireworks displays that demand you party until the wee hours.

However, you’ll want to conserve your energy for the huge Delaney Park Strip party in Anchorage. It starts with a pancake breakfast at 8 a.m. before segueing into the parade at 11 a.m. Following is the massive festival from 12 – 6 p.m. with games, food, vendors and live music. At 1 p.m., the Harvard Club reads the Declaration of Independence while revelers in period costumes circle through the crowd.

A Fourth to be Reckoned With

The Anchorage celebration is known for a huge fireworks show and some of the best seafood in town. Anchorage restaurants compete for prizes while the annual Alaska Baseball League doubleheader goes down between the Anchorage Bucs and Anchorage Glacier Pilots at Mulcahy Stadium at 7 and 9 p.m.

Head two miles south of Anchorage to Seward for their 12:01 a.m. fireworks on July 4th. It’s followed by Mount Marathon a few hours later in a tough stretch from downtown to the peak of the 3,022-foot mountain and back. The race started as a bet between local runners that they couldn’t make it round trip within one hour.
