Alaska Botanical Garden

Alaska Botanical Garden has over 100 acres of Boreal forest with 8 acres of cultivated gardens with interconnected nature trails. This Garden is home to over 1,100 varieties of plants and over 150 distinct species hardy to the region.

Beautiful gardens are woven through a 110-acre birch and spruce forest. Alaska Botanical Garden is lovely to explore and experience Alaska’s growing season. This place features a Gold Medal winner Peony collection, gardening practices, heirloom plants from the past, the site’s 20-year-old Herb Garden, wildflower trail, subarctic rock garden, and more. Adventurous guests can explore the 1.1-mile Lowenfels-Hoersting Family Nature Trail, where ptarmigan fly and salmon run on the North Fork of Campbell Creek.

This place was developed through the dedication and hard work of numerous people, including the City’s leading gardeners, who contributed their ideas and time through various Alaska Botanical Garden boars and committees over decades.

A trip to this magical Garden will surely dispel any thoughts you might have that the harsh Alaskan climate allows only a few hardy species of trees and plants to grow. Step into this wonderland, and you’ll be amazed by the flora, fauna, variety, and lushness of species that thrive here. Besides the magnificent gardens, the Alaska Botanical Garden features a gift shop, workshops, and tours.
